Lolita Lebrón, a Puerto Rican nationalist who was convicted of attempted murder and other crimes after carrying out an armed attack on the U.S. Capitol in 1954. (1919-2010)

Translation: "We don't want despots, down with tyranny now."

Lola Rodríguez de Tió,  the first Puerto Rican-born woman poet to establish her reputation as a great poet throughout Latin America. A believer in women's rights, she was also committed to the abolition of slavery and the independence of Puerto Rico. She wrote the original lyrics to the revolutionary version of "La Borinqueña". (1843-1924)
